My background

Latoya Nugent is a passionate advocate for empowerment, dedicated mother, and educator with the NYC Department of Education. Growing up in Brooklyn’s resilient Brownsville neighborhood, Latoya’s life is defined by love, faith, and determination. As a proud mom of two, she understands the importance of nurturing strength and compassion in the next generation.

My faith

As CEO and founder of Divine Sunflower LLC, Latoya’s mission is to uplift and empower women—particularly single mothers and those who’ve faced life’s greatest challenges. Rooted in faith, Divine Sunflower provides support, encouragement, and opportunities for women to rebuild their confidence and embrace their inner strength.

My involvement

Latoya’s work, both in the classroom and through her business, reflects her commitment to love, resilience, and divine purpose. She inspires women to rise above adversity and reach their full potential. Driven by faith, Latoya uplifts others as an educator, mentor, and community leader. Through the Madeline Whitfield Scholarship, she helps empower young women pursuing higher education, recently awarding $500 scholarships to two deserving students. Latoya’s passion for supporting women—especially single mothers and those facing life's challenges—drives her to create lasting opportunities for others to thrive.
